October 9, 2009

Classes, Classes, Classes

The first day of International Quilt Market is jam-packed with classes. The day started out early at 7:30 a.m. correcting errors on our class schedules. Then from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., we attended a total of 17 classes on a wide array of topics. We attended classes taught by such well-known designers as Jinny Beyer, Ricky Tims, Robin Pandolph and Alex Anderson. We learned about new lines of fabric, new notions and tools, and business operations. Then, when we thought we couldn't do one more thing, it was time for Sample Spree. The frantic frenzy of hundreds of quilters racing into a room to buy fat quarter bundles of the new lines of fabric is something to experience. And of course, we had to experience it all! After a full day, we finally sat down to a late dinner after 10 p.m. and crashed in our room at 11. Tomorrow begins the actual market.

We're Off..............

...& we made it! We set off on Wednesday for our 2nd annual trek to Houston for International Quilt Market. We drove as far as Dallas on Wednesday, and hit the bed early (anything before midnight is early) to rest up for a day at the Moda warehouse. At Moda, we shopped and shopped and shopped - until they finally shut the lights out on us and closed the warehouse! Then we headed on to Houston, where it's a balmy 80 degrees (much better than the snow they're predicting at home). Friday is classes and market shopping spree!

October 6, 2009

To Market, To Market...

We're off to the International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas! We'll give you daily updates of our travels and quilting discoveries, so stay tuned!

Thank You!

We want to say thank you to everyone who participated in our shop hop this past weekend. We hope you had fun, we certainly did. We would also like to congratulate Judy Faurot of Scott City, winner of our $50 gift certificate drawing, and Margorie Elder, winner of the Blank Quilting gift bag.

We've had a couple of questions regarding the mystery quilt. One, the pattern calls for 4 red fabrics. We divided the total amount of red fabric needed and divided it between the 3 shops, so you have enough fabric but if you want it more scrappy, you're welcome to add more reds from your stash. Second, when making the blocks, co-mingle all the fabrics together from each shop's kit so that the fabric is mixed throughout the quilt. Please call if you have any other questions!

Again, Deb, Belinda, Janet and Sharla say "thanks" for supporting us!

July 17, 2009

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

....or at least winter! This week our flannel started arriving! As this post is typed, it's cool, cloudy and rainy, just the right type of weather to start quilting for your Christmas gift list. And we have the perfect flannel collection for all your holiday projects - Red Rooster's Snow Wonderland Flannel by Whimsicals.
Snuggle into winter with Whimsicals "We can build a snowman" toss and primitive-style snowman border stripe. Have fun with the holly leaves; winter flower and leaves; pine bough and berry stripe; tweedy stripe; geometric; and texture in muted reds, greens, browns, winter grays, and beiges. These charming prints will be perfect in traditional and country quilts with touches of applique.
Love the Whimsical's look, but rather have cotton? Then check out our new Vintage Homestead collection that arrived this week also.
This line features framed folk art vignettes of primitive angels, crows, quilt blocks and flowers, all in the country palette of muted reds, greens, browns, grays, tans and beiges that Whimsicals is famous for. This fabric line is featured in the new quilt pattern by the same name.
