New From Buggy Barn

The latest collection to arrive at the shop is Buggy Barn's newest line called "Brambleberries". These whimsical country prints are full of warm and cozy heathered blues, wines, tans and creams.  And soon to arrive will be Buggy Barns newest book, "Still Crazy", featuring projects from this line of fabric.

Excited!!!

Ok, now I'm excited.  I've had a good response from people interested in participating in the Farmer's Wife Quilt-a-Long, so I made the commitment and cut my fabrics today.  I just love the colors in the Bonnie Blue Basics line!  Won't it look awesome in the Farmer's Wife quilt?

Am I tempting anyone else to join us on this adventure?

Little Gatherings

The new hot colors are black and tan neutrals.  And nothing shows off the latest trend better than the newest collection of fabric to arrive at the shop - "Little Gatherings" by Primitive Gatherings for Moda.  From soft creams to tans to rich browns and blacks, this fabric is perfect for so many projects, such as this quilt called "45 & Life To Go".

Crazy?

I must be absolutely insane for even contemplating this, but heck, I’m a farmer’s wife and the challenge might be fun…..

Have you heard of Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-Longs? Based on the book “The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt” by Laurie Aaron Hird, an absolutely gorgeous sampler quilt which features 111 six inch blocks inspired by letters from farmer’s wives in the 1920’s, a Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-Long is an internet (blog or email) based quilt program. I’m thinking of sending out an email with hints, how-tos, and general information and chat featuring two of the blocks each week. Those who want to participate can make the blocks along with me, then reply with their comments, suggestions, questions, encouragement and chat. At a rate of 2 blocks a week, we’ll complete all 111 blocks in just over a year! And quilting together by email will make it more fun and encourage us to keep going (motivation is the key for me to accomplish this project – well, that and chocolate!)

I’ll need lots and lots of encouragement, so I’m hoping many of you will join me on this adventure. If you’d like to participate, just respond back by email (prairieflowerquilts@yahoo.com). If enough people show an interest, I’d like to start later this month.

Requirements to participate…..the only things you’ll need are “The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt” book that includes a CD with all the templates to make the blocks (if you’d like to order one from the shop just indicate that in your email, cost is $27.99); fabric (a little more about fabric selection below); the other usual sewing supplies and equipment; and enthusiasm!

Fabric….I’ve seen every style of fabric under the sun used, from contemporary to traditional, scrappy to coordinated. You can use your stash or we’d be happy to help you pick out fabric at Prairie Flower Quilt Co. I’m going to use traditional prints from the Bonnie Blue Basics collection. The author used over 300 different fabric scraps in her quilt, but estimates that it will require approximately 10 yards of fabric if purchasing.
